Rules and Event Details

  1. Drivers and passengers must be 18 years old or older.

  2. All drivers and passengers must wear a helmet and closed-toe shoes on the track at all times.
We will have some helmets available for attendees to use if you do not have one. Please return your helmet to the registration table at the end of your session.

  3. Convertibles must have factory installed rollover protection or a high-quality aftermarket install which must be immediately behind driver’s seats. Each convertible needs to be approved by the track manager.

  4. We reserve the right to expel you from the event without refund if you do not follow the safety rules AND/OR fail to show up at the mandatory drivers meetings.

  5. This is NOT a race day, nor head-to-head racing, nor a speed competition, this IS a fun chance to take your car out on a real race track. Failure to follow track rules shared in the mandatory driver meeting will result in expulsion.

  6. All High Plains Raceway Rules are in also in effect.

  7. Registration is located at a picnic table under the pavilion – it is not located in the High Plains office.

  8. Event will be held rain or shine – there are no refunds for weather.

Driving Groups

We will be splitting everyone into two groups during each session. There is a slow group (beginner/novice drivers) and a fast group (advanced/experienced drivers). The main difference between the two groups is how comfortable you are with driving on the track and the relative speed of your car. Please start out in the beginner group if you have never been to the track before. You are free to move to the fast group when you are comfortable. The choice of group will be left to the driver.

Passing Rules

In the slow group, passing can only be done with a point-by/wave from the car in front of you. Please make sure you are able to fully make the pass before a turn. Important: The passing car needs to move off the racing line to make the pass – the car being passed NEEDS TO STAY ON THE RACING LINE to stay predictable. Do not move over to let people by, and the car being overtaken should let off the gas to let the passing car by. Do not race them to the corner! You need to be comfortable passing cars AND getting passed. There will always be a slower car in front of you and a faster car behind you. PAY ATTENTION!
The fast group is responsible for their own passing – please make sure all passes are done safely. In both groups it is the responsibility of the car making the pass to go off-line to make the pass. DO NOT move out of the way, off-line to “help”. You need to be consistent and predictable when other drivers are behind you.

Insurance

Incidents can happen and it is important to ensure that you are properly covered. Please review your personal vehicle insurance restrictions and we recommend enrolling in Track Day Insurance.
